At Coroflo, supporting women and families in achieving their feeding goals is at the heart of everything we do. We know that infant feeding journeys are deeply personal and the decisions surrounding them matter. Our mission is simple: to empower families with the insight and tools they need to make informed, confident choices about how to feed their babies.

As we enter World Breastfeeding Week, we’ve been reflecting on the current breastfeeding landscape and the many positive shifts we’re seeing. Here’s a closer look at the encouraging trends and changes that give us hope for the future.

Breastfeeding Rates Are on the Rise

Globally, more families are choosing to breastfeed. While Ireland has historically had one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world, the tide is turning. Between 2016 and 2023, Irish breastfeeding rates rose by an encouraging 18%.

This positive change is thanks to increased awareness, policy support, and a growing network of healthcare professionals who are better equipped to support infant feeding. It’s a reminder that when compassionate, knowledgeable support is made available, families are empowered to make the choices that work best for them.

Innovation Is Shaping the Future of Breastfeeding

The world of infant feeding is evolving quickly. From wearable breast pumps to virtual lactation consultations, technology is opening up new possibilities for parents. These tools are not only convenient, but they also help remove some of the physical and emotional barriers that can come with breastfeeding.

At Coroflo, we believe that innovation plays a key role in supporting families. As we become more solutions-focused in our approach, we’re seeing how smart technology can make a meaningful difference and we’re proud to be part of that change.

Greater Understanding of the Challenges Some Families Face

We understand that breastfeeding can bring challenges, some of which are easier treated than others, and this can often have a significant impact on the health and well being of young families. Our knowledge of the factors that influence breastfeeding success is growing every day. Research is uncovering how certain health conditions like diabetes, obesity, and hypertension may impact a woman’s breastfeeding outcomes. This insight is crucial. It means care providers can better identify families who may need additional support and tailor interventions accordingly.

Understanding the full picture, from maternal health to infant development and mental wellbeing, allows us to provide more holistic, compassionate care. There’s still progress to be made, but the momentum and intention is growing.

Looking Ahead

The journey of infant feeding is rarely straightforward but, thankfully, the support available to families is improving. As we mark World Breastfeeding Week, we’re inspired by the progress, encouraged by the innovation, and hopeful for a future where every family feels seen, supported, and informed.

Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding, or doing a bit of both your journey matters.
